Stephen Turner - B.A (Hons) Fine Art, M.A Game Design, University of Central Lancashire
"As an artist I am interested in creating atmosphere and feeling. I want to evoke familiar moods in the viewer and I set out to achieve this goal through manipulation of composition and subject matter. I strive to create scenes of interest; it could be anything I can envisage where people could congregate. Through study of the subject the evocative feelings could be communicated through weather conditions or depiction of architecture, something like a rainbow, a play of colours through the spectrum after heavy rain." |

| "It could be people with umbrellas sheltering together, the play of light in a park on a summer’s day, the mood cast as people wait in a station to board a train, or something more epic or abstract, as masses of people move through a cityscape underneath a dramatic sky. I like the idea of there being some form of narrative passing loosely through my paintings.
I use oil on board or canvas, building up layers. Using brush marks to work expressively and loosely, taking inspiration from artists like Lowry, Turner, and Constable alongside more modern exponents.
Paintings are planned and researched until I reach a point where I am confident they will work. I produce many pencil drawings in layout books and make use of digital painting software like Photoshop to produce fast colour plans. I also find it useful to maintain a study of figurative work and continue to practice life drawing."
