Description
Oceans of the North captures a vast snow-covered mountain range rising above calm, glass-like water. The monumental central peak is rendered with expressive sweeps of white, charcoal and earthy brown, giving the mountain a rugged, almost sculptural presence.
The composition is beautifully balanced between the powerful solidity of the mountains and their softened reflections below. Deep cobalt and icy blues dominate the water and sky, while flashes of rust, ochre and burnt sienna along the shoreline bring warmth and contrast to the wintry palette.
Scott’s combination of expressive impasto and smoother atmospheric passages gives the painting both energy and tranquillity. The elongated panoramic format emphasises the enormous scale and openness of the northern landscape, creating a highly immersive contemporary landscape painting.
Sarah Victoria Scott is a painter based in Lancashire, England, working primarily in oil paint.
